Rohtak houses a myriad of welfare organizations and NGOs who work on a variety of causes for the betterment of the society. All these organizations give more significance to the charitable objectives rather than any monetary benefits. Let us explore some:
Jan Sewa Sansthan in RohtakThe Jan Sewa Sansthan stands out among the other NGOs in Rohtak. This organization welcomes each and every one regardless of his/her caste, religion or creed. The only aim of this NGO is empowerment and social justice. It encompasses approximately 800 members who contribute money from 20 Rs to 2000 Rs every month.
The Jan Sewa Sansthan offers its services in the following institutions:
Mahila Ashram (Ashram for mentally retarded and old women)
Mahila ashram is located in the Sri nagar colony, Rohtak. At present there are 41 women who live in this ashram. Besides this, there are also a few mentally retarded girls and some weak and poor women who have been discarded from their houses. These women are also unable to tell about their exact residential addresses. These kinds of people are also treated here with the help of medications and are trained to execute the daily activities in the ashram.
Lala Jyoti Swarup Vriddhashram (Old age home and ashram for handicapped people)
This institution is located on Bhiwani road in Rohtak. This ashram is just 1 km away from the Rohtak’s by pass. The ashram consists of handicapped and decrepit people. This institute gives shelter to the old people who have been abandoned by their children. The ashram offers clothes, medicines, food and other kinds of necessary amenities to these people and all these services are provided absolutely free. The handicapped people are trained by expert teachers.
This orphanage is situated just opposite the Lala Jyoti Swarup Vriddhashram. Presently it gives shelter to 104 orphans. Among these orphans a few are mentally retarded, some are normal and the rest are the kids of underprivileged widows. A few children are able to read and write to some extent. Those who are mentally retarded are ignorant of their caste, creed, parents and religion. Education is provided to the kids of poor widows. On the other hand the mentally retarded kids are treated with special care and once they show some development they are asked to do their work on their own. If there is some more improvement they are made to participate in the daily activities and chores of the ashram.
